LOS GATOS, CA. — July 10 — Hundreds of citizens from Los Gatos, Mountain View and the surrounding communities will gather today at 3 p.m. in front of El Camino Hospital Los Gatos in celebration of the much-anticipated July 12 hospital opening. During the brief, 90-day closure period, El Camino Hospital leaders completed more than 100 key technology upgrades, hired and trained hundreds of staff and physicians, and worked closely with community groups and South Bay Area physicians to determine key health services for the community.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — TriWest Healthcare Alliance, with the support of Blue Shield of California, has been awarded a new contract by the U.S. Department of Defense’s TRICARE program to provide access to healthcare services to nearly 2.7 million U.S. military personnel and their dependents through 2015. The new TriWest contract is worth approximately $16 billion, and covers military personnel in the Western United States.
INDIANAPOLIS — July 12 — Today, Wishard Health Services announced, after years of extensive study, that a ceiling of $703 million in low-interest public bonds is needed to support building a new $754 million Wishard Hospital campus. The new Wishard will replace failing buildings that cannot be renovated and will ensure Wishard’s critical and life-saving services remain available to the community.
NEW YORK, N.Y. — July 10 — Turner Construction Company, the nation’s largest healthcare builder, announces the appointment of James A. Brownrigg as Vice President and Director of Healthcare. Based in Brentwood, Tenn., Mr. Brownrigg will provide oversight of Turner’s Healthcare construction services as well as Turner Logistics Medical and Research Solutions, a subsidiary providing medical equipment supply chain management. In this role, he will be responsible for the effective management and development of healthcare projects across the U.S. valued at over $2 billion annually.
The new 12-story Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, located in Daytona Beach, is set to open on July 14. The $270 million, 718,000-square-foot hospital is on 135 acres and will have 277 beds with a capacity for 350 beds. The new hospital will double the size of the existing Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA – On July 1, construction of the new Sutter Medical Center Castro Valley began. The new facility will replace the current Eden Medical Center. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Eden employees, physicians, volunteers, officials from Sutter Health, and local business and government agencies commemorated the start of a three-year project to replace the 55-year -hospital with a modern, seismically safe $320 million facility. This will be the first new medical center in Alameda County to be built in compliance with the State of California earthquake safety law SB 1953.
California Pacific Medical Center has grand plans for the future of health care in San Francisco, and the centerpiece is a 550-bed hospital with top-of-the-line services that administrators say would be a boon to residents and a destination medical center, drawing patients from all over the country.
