63,000-Square-Foot Critical-Access Facility Improves Functionality and Creates Operational EfficienciesNashville, TN – July 30 – Gresham, Smith and Partners, a leading national architecture, engineering, interior design and planning firm, announces the opening of Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Arkansas for which the firm provided planning and design services. The 63,000-square-foot critical access facility contains 20 private patient rooms, two operating rooms, a minor procedure room and full-service emergency, imaging departments and a helipad. The facility replaces an existing hospital and is designed to improve functionality and create operational efficiencies.

KLMK Group, LLC was recently awarded a contract with Memorial Hospital in York, Pennsylvania to provide Client Advisory Services for the first phase of their new hospital. Memorial Hospital has purchased land at the former 127-acre Hawk Lake Golf Club to build a new healthcare campus to meet the growing needs of patients in York and the surrounding communities. The new campus will include a full service acute care replacement facility. The property allows for future construction and expansion of additional outpatient and ancillary buildings.
Bay Pines, FL – The Bay Pines VA Medical Center broke ground July 21 on a project that will enhance care for area veterans. The VA Medical Center is constructing a new Radiation Therapy Center where veterans will be able to receive state-of-the-art cancer care. Currently, Bay Pines VA does not offer radiation therapy; veterans requiring this type of cancer treatment must travel to Tampa VA or a community provider. FORT BELVOIR, VA. — July 27 (Army News Service) — The patient-and family-focused design of a new community hospital at Fort Belvoir is taking physical shape after a year of construction.Under the Base Realignment and Closure Act of 2005, the new hospital will replace DeWitt Army Community Hospital and take over some of the services now offered at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The current Walter Reed facility is scheduled to close Sept. 15, 2011 as a new hospital expansion opens in Bethesda.
New York, N.Y. — Turner Construction Company, the nation’s largest builder of healthcare facilities, has been selected by The University of Kansas Hospital to manage construction of a $55 medical office building in Kansas City, Kan. The project will seek LEED Certification from the United States Green Building Council upon completion in 2011.The medical center will be located south of The University of Kansas Hospital and will house 18 clinical departments, including exam, clinic, diagnostic and treatment areas, which are currently scattered throughout the campus.

Hospital administrators in Borger, TX plan to break ground on a 25-bed hospital on the west side of town this fall after finally securing money for construction.The new Golden Plains Community Hospital, estimated to cost $27 million, will be financed with loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a local bank.Earlier this decade, hospital officials were told the current Golden Plains hospital, an aging structure on McGee Street, was beyond repair and needed replacement.
