NAPERVILLE, Il. — July 20 — The Board of Trustees of the Illinois Hospital Association (IHA) announced today that Maryjane A. Wurth, 53, Chief Operating Officer, Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS), has been selected as the new president of IHA. Wurth succeeds Ken Robbins, who has served as IHA president since 1983 and will retire later this year. She will assume her duties as IHA’s president in October.
Facility would have to participate fully in state trauma systemMississippi state Board of Health members have paved the way for a new hospital in burgeoning DeSoto County – as long as that hospital treats the poor and fully participates in the state’s trauma system.It’s the first time a proposed hospital has been required to participate in the trauma care network.
Health center 1 of 4 projects being paid for with hospital reservesConstruction is burgeoning at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, where four projects worth $43.7 million are either under way or soon to break ground.The work is not as ambitious as what the board of directors envisioned before Measure W a $392 million bond proposal that would have essentially rebuilt the hospital fell short of the required two-thirds voter support last summer. Even so, Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue said the surviving projects are hefty enough to amount to a “local stimulus package.”
New Facility to Centralize Acute Psychiatric CareWASHINGTON — July 15 — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced the award of a $26 million contract to a San Francisco firm to construct a new 80-bed acute psychiatric facility at VA’s Palo Alto Health Care System.
JANESVILLE, WI — July 16 — Today SSM Health Care of Wisconsin and Dean Health System announced plans for proceeding with construction of the new St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital and Dean Clinic Janesville. Ground will be broken on the new $150 million project, which includes a 50-bed hospital and an adjacent clinic, in October. Completion of the project is now set for late 2011.
