There was some recent talk of changing the name of Project 2010, the largest expansion program in Hendrick Health System’s history, jokes Tim Lancaster, the health provider’s president and chief executive officer.The hospital’s ambitious $80 million expansion got sideswiped by a bad bond market shortly after it was announced in August 2008, forcing a delay that ended Thursday with a news conference announcing the plan to reshape the Hendrick campus, build new facilities and extensively upgrade a number of existing patient and support areas.

New York, N.Y. — August 26 — Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, N.Y. is not just the only university-based hospital on Long Island, it is the first hospital in the nation to pledge to reduce its environmental impact through a comprehensive agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The hospital and EPA today signed an agreement that outlines goals and strategies for energy and water conservation, solid waste management, green design and the use of environmentally-friendly products. Stony Brook University Hospital will track the results of these efforts and submit reports to EPA every six months.
Turner Building Cost Index Projects a 2.03% Decline in The Third QuarterNew York, N.Y. — August 25 — Turner Construction Company announced that the Third Quarter 2009 Turner Building Cost Index, which measures non-residential building construction costs in the United States, has decreased by 2.03% from the Second Quarter 2009. NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Aug. 24 — China Healthcare Corporation, based in Nashville, Tenn., today provided details about its project to build a state-of-the-art, 500-bed replacement hospital in Cixi, China.China Healthcare was founded in April 2008 by Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Jr., Charles A. Elcan and Henry Zhou. In April this year, the company received final government approval for its first hospital, a full-service, acute care facility that will replace the 150-bed People’s #2 Hospital. China Healthcare owns a 70 percent stake, while the Cixi government owns 30 percent of the venture.
