Grand Opening Ceremony for San Antonio State Hospital Set for April 9
Officials from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony April 9 to celebrate the grand opening of the new 300-bed San Antonio State Hospital. The inpatient psychiatric hospital replaces the original facility, which first opened in 1892. It will provide long-term and short-term residential and crisis treatment for behavioral health patients.
The Texas Legislature and Gov. Greg Abbott approved approximately $357 million in funding to construct the new hospital, enhancing the care HHSC staff provide, while eliminating the challenges older buildings pose for modern healthcare. The project team includes HKS and Vaughn Construction.
The hospital is part of a larger $2.5 billion investment from the Texas Legislature for replacement and renovation of the hospitals across the state, to transform inpatient psychiatric care in Texas. Learn more here.
