McCarthy Breaks Ground on CHI Health’s New Academic Medical Center–University Campus

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. recently broke ground on the new CHI Ambulatory Building, which is part of the new academic complex for Creighton University Medical Center. McCarthy_05082015The $35-million, 80,000-square-foot facility will feature a new, team-based approach to healthcare, education and the community in one location to serve the region.

McCarthy serves as construction manager and general contractor for the new ambulatory building, which will house the region’s first free-standing emergency department, as well as outpatient and diagnostic services and community space. Specialty care services will include psychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology and a pharmacy. The facility will also be home to Creighton University’s Family Medicine Residency Program with new technology that enables virtual visits with physicians located across town, as well as student-patient learning, all with the goal of enabling interaction while reducing costs for patients. The complex is slated to open in late 2016.

McCarthy has a long history with CHI Health, serving as construction manager and general contractor to deliver their Generation Patient Program, a $250-million renovation and additional capital improvement program for five hospitals in the Omaha area, including CHI Health Immanuel, CHI Health Bergan Mercy, CHI Health Mercy, CHI Health Midlands and CHI Health Lakeside l. McCarthy also completed a previous capital improvement program called the New Era Initiative in addition to other various renovations and continuous work.

McCarthy will work with Omaha-based Altus Architectural Studio, Specialized Engineering Solutions and Davis Companies on the new facility.
