Sheila Elijah-Barnwell to Oversee Healthcare Research and Education Efforts at HDR
Sheila Elijah-Barnwell, Ph.D., AIA, has been appointed to the newly-created position of Director, Healthcare Research and Education for HDR Architecture, Inc. She will be responsible for spearheading efforts to establish university-based healthcare design educational programs across the nation similar to the one HDR is currently sponsoring at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, as well as identifying and coordinating research efforts with HDR’s healthcare consultants to help grow the body of knowledge that supports evidence-based design efforts. Elijah-Barnwell will also be tasked with internal healthcare educational efforts, and will also maintain her role as design architect.
“Sheila is imminently suited to her new responsibilities,” said Doug Wignall, Director of HDR’s Healthcare program. “She is an accomplished architect, a 17-year HDR veteran and recently received her Ph.D. in Educational Studies, Architecture Education. Sheila’s contributions to this new position will be vital to HDR Architecture’s efforts to continue the growth of our collective intellectual and design capital, which has helped us earn our No. 1 healthcare design firm ranking for the past seven years.”
“I am excited by the opportunity to replicate the success of the UNL studio/research curriculum,” said Elijah-Barnwell. “Not only will we help to better educate a whole new generation of healthcare design leaders, but we will be able to harness the brain power of these students as they research timely issues impacting the design of healthcare environments. I also look forward to sharing our healthcare expertise with other groups within HDR, whether they have joined us through acquisition or are located in an office where we have not traditionally had a healthcare practice.”
“While we already lead in so many ways,” Elijah-Barnwell added, “it is my intent that this position will provide HDR online gambling australia with another distinct ‘edge’ in a very competitive healthcare design marketplace.”
Elijah-Barnwell assumes her new position in August and will be based in the firm’s Omaha, Neb. headquarters office.
