WILLOWBROOK, Texas — Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital has expanded services in Northwest Houston, Texas with the opening of a new 36-bed patient care unit in the hospital’s North Pavilion. The unit features an innovative architectural design that allows flexibility in how patient beds are designated, whether there is a need for medical-surgical services or even critical care services in the future.

“We are proud to open this advanced patient care unit and expand our services to meet the needs of our growing community and growing patient population,” said Beryl Ramsey, CEO of Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and senior vice president of Houston Methodist. “In planning for this expansion, we brought together patients, families, hospital staff and physicians to provide input and help us create a healing environment focused on patient safety and quality. Our community expects this high level of care, service and innovation from Houston Methodist, and we will continue to expand services as needed to grow with the Northwest Houston community.”

The universal bed architectural design features open nursing stations, allowing patient rooms to be visible at all times. Other key features include advanced monitoring capabilities, room service on demand and spacious patient rooms.

“This innovative model allows us to evolve to meet the needs of our patients,” said Sheila Fata, chief nursing officer and vice president, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. “The entire unit has been designed with the visibility and technology to allow transitions in the level of care provided with no additional construction.”

The hospital has continued to expand since opening more than fourteen years ago and further expansion is planned based on the needs of patients and the community. Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital opened the North Pavilion in 2010 as part of a major hospital expansion. At that time, three additional floors totaling space for 108 patient rooms were prepared for future expansion. The opening of this 36-bed patient care unit is the first of the additional shelled floors for patient rooms to be completed and opened.
