Susquehanna Health receives $1.5 Million toward Project 2012
Pennsylvania State Representative Rick Mirabito recently announced that Susquehanna Health will receive $1.5 million from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program for the Williamsport Regional Medical Center portion of Project 2012.
The receipt of these grant funds was the result of a visit to Williamsport Regional Medical Center by Dwight Evans, Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and Representative Mirabito in January 2009. During this visit, the two legislators toured the Patient Tower construction area and Representative Mirabito also toured the new Energy Service Center. The legislators were impressed with the progress of the construction project and the operational efficiencies it is creating.
According to Representative Mirabito he requested the release of these funds to support our Project 2012. Susquehanna Health is sincerely grateful to Representative Mirabito for working on our behalf to secure the $1.5 million. The funds will be used to cover the cost of developing the $25 million Energy Service Center. The Energy Service Center, when fully operational this fall with the use of its co-generation unit, will reduce Williamsport Regional Medical Center’s annual operating costs by $1 million each year.
About the additional $1.5 million Steven P. Johnson, Susquehanna Health President & CEO says, “I am truly grateful to the efforts of Representative Mirabito which support Project 2012. This demonstrates his commitment to our community and our region.” He also expressed gratitude to the governor for his recognition that Project 2012 is a very special community undertaking which will affect the quality of life throughout north central Pennsylvania.
To complete the application process, the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program requires participation by a public entity as the formal applicant for the funds. The Lycoming County Commissioners have graciously agreed to serve in this capacity and will be taking formal action over the next few weeks.
