ONEONTA, N.Y. — A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital recently held an open house for their new 14-bed observation unit, the final phase of A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital’s “Gold Standard of Patient Care” modernization project, designed by MorrisSwitzer~Environments for Health. This $8-million medical/surgical inpatient renovation created 53 private rooms which provide privacy for patients, increase infection control and improve patient flow throughout the hospital.
Patient-centered design is a cornerstone of MorrisSwitzer’s design philosophy and each room has independent climate control, a private bathroom with shower and space for a portable bed, allowing family members to stay overnight with patients. Hospitality-style interiors with wood flooring and upgraded entertainment systems are combined with the latest in medical technology to create a high level of care in a comfortable setting.
The 14-bed observation unit is designed to accommodate a range of patients with a variety of needs and acuity, as well as specifically designed pediatric observation spaces. An updated family waiting area provides a place of respite for concerned families.
