STARK COUNTY, Ohio — Mercy Medical Center broke ground recently on the new 55,000-sq.-ft. Mercy Health Center and STATCARE of Jackson. The new facility is a strategic, developer-hospital-physician partnership between Signet Healthcare, Mercy Medical Center and local physician practices.
The health center will initially include an imaging center, lab, cardiac diagnostic services, sleep lab, STATCARE Immediate Care Center, Mercy Primary Care – Jackson and offices for Urology One and Tri-County Hematology and Oncology. Construction will be managed by Fred Olivieri Construction Company.
Tom Cecconi, Mercy president and CEO, believes this partnership will benefit the people of Jackson Township as they continue to build a thriving community center. By offering a broad range of accessible and affordable health services, the new health center will also be part of carrying out the hospital’s longstanding mission.
During the groundbreaking and blessing service, Cecconi said, “This land where we are today has become a vibrant township hub, and with the new Mercy building, it will be even more so. When our new facility opens in about a year from now, we plan to employ 24 more people, in addition to the approximately 50 at our current health center. That center will be put to other uses. We thank Jackson Township for welcoming us to your community, and we look forward to continuing to being a good neighbor and leader here in this wonderful community.”
Cecconi recognized Stark County Commissioners for approving Recovery Zone Facility Bonds, and the Stark County Port Authority which issued the bonds. He noted that this action greatly assisted the new medical facility project becoming a reality.
Sister Judith Ann Karam, C.S.A., president and CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System, and Anthony S. Manna, chairman and CEO of Signet Enterprises LLC also shared remarks during the ceremony. Reverend Father Steven Agostino, Mercy priest chaplain, led the prayer service. Groundbreaking ceremony participants included Cecconi, Karam and Manna, as well as Roger Mann, chairman of Mercy’s board of directors, William M. Burger, Jackson Township trustee, and Dina K. Rooney, M.D., Tri-County Hematology and Oncology. Many other representatives from Mercy, Signet, the physician offices and Jackson Township were in attendance.
Mercy Medical Center, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, operates a 476-bed hospital serving Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas Counties and parts of Southeastern Ohio.
