    TAMPA, FL — St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital broke ground Wednesday, May 18 on a 125,000-square-foot, five-story expansion.

The $75 million project will be home to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital’s new 64-bed neonatal intensive care unit, the Hinks and Elaine Shimberg Breast Center, and women’s care services such as obstetrics, gynecology and surgery.

The new NICU will provide private suites with support space for families, overnight accommodations, and an individualized environment to improve the developmental process and growth of the neonates, a release said.

The hospital also published a list of “gift recognition opportunities” for the NICU, such as a center naming opportunity for a gift of $5 million, two floor naming opportunities for $1 million each, and a family entrance/lounge naming opportunity for $250,000.

The addition of 24 private suites for women’s care patients will improve safety and enhance the patient experience, the release said. It also allows the hospital to move to all-private rooms for non-obstetric patients on the old fourth floor, the release said.

The Hinks and Elaine Shimberg Breast Center will be a leader in breast imaging procedures with its CT scanner, ultrasound, DEXA scan, digital mammography and MRI, the release said.

St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital in Tampa is part of the BayCare Health System.
