Roper St. Francis Healthcare will be relocating Roper Hospital from its Charleston, South Carolina peninsula location to North Charleston, giving patients easier access to care that’s closer to where they live and work. The estimated $1B project will be one of the largest healthcare projects on the East Coast.
The joint venture team of Barton Malow Builders and Edifice General Contractors has been selected as construction manager for the new Roper Hospital Medical Campus, which originally opened its doors in 1856. E4H Environments for Health Architecture and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill are providing master planning, architecture and design services.
Project plans call for a 341-bed hospital, an 80,000-square-foot medical office building/ambulatory center, a central utility plant and structured parking for over 2,200 vehicles. The building will also be technologically and structurally upgraded to better withstand natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes and earthquakes.
