Hospice Unit Opens at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville
Community Hospice and Palliative Care’s new inpatient unit at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, Florida has opened its doors to patients. The 10-room, 7,500-square-foot facility will provide compassionate, around-the-clock care for patients with advanced illness and comfort for family members. Gresham Smith served as architect, with Auld & White Constructors, LLC as general contractor.
The facility’s location within the hospital enables patients to seamlessly transfer from a hospital room to a hospice room, connecting the continuum of care. While part of the hospital, the unit looks distinctly different, using finishes such as wood floors, ceiling fans and residential interior doors to create a comfortable, home-like experience. The patient rooms, which are larger than typical hospital rooms, are each equipped with a pullout couch, desk, mini fridge and full-size bathrooms. Additionally, a family lounge with a kitchenette, laundry room, workstation and dining space add comfort and convenience for family members.
