McGrath & Associates Completes Construction of $1.8-Million Saint Louis University Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Center
The SLU Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Center, led by Friedrich G. Schuening, M.D. of the Saint Louis University Cancer Center, will increase patient access to a quality bone marrow transplant program. The outpatient center will improve patients’ quality of life by helping them avoid long hospital stays during and after bone marrow transplants.
The bone marrow center was constructed in an existing hospital space with a low floor-to-deck height and structural concrete beams, requiring close coordination by McGrath and the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection contractors. A VRF HVAC system was engineered to allow for the space’s lower profile ductwork.
McGrath coordinated construction with hospital staff to prevent any disruption to the patient care areas located on the floor below the center and the administration offices above. McGrath also implemented strict contamination control measures to ensure a safe work environment and clean air quality for staff and patients.
