Cone Health Reaches Milestone with New Women’s Hospital
Cone Health marks a milestone in the construction of the 196,000-square-foot project at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital with a topping out ceremony. The $100-million project will unite the women’s services at Women’s Hospital with the children’s services at Moses Cone Hospital, located in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Several beams, signed by Cone Health staff, were added to the six-story structure following a brief ceremony at the site last month.
More than 900 staff, multiple physicians, former patients and others took part in designing the facility. “That focus will be very evident both in our final structure and in the level of care and service we will continue providing in this facility,” says Cone Health CEO Terry Akin. “This truly will be a model for future generations, and our patients and communities will benefit.”
The project will include an expanded, 45-bed neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital will also offer couplet care, allowing babies needing intensive care and their mothers to be cared for in the same room.
Brasfield & Gorrie is serving as general contractor on the project; the architect is HKS, Inc.
