Gresham, Smith and Partners, a multi-disciplinary design and consulting firm for the built environment, is excited to announce a partnership with the Egyptian-American Medical Center  outside Cairo. GS&P is contracted to provide programming and planning services, as well as design services through design development, for the planned medical complex.

The proposed medical center calls for a 40,000-square-meter, 182-bed acute care hospital and an international level 100-Physicians occupancy medical office building. In addition, the EAMC will include an adjacent EAMC- Cancer Center, which will provide multidisciplinary cancer care with up-to-date protocols and procedures.

“We are very excited by this opportunity to participate in a burgeoning Egyptian healthcare market,” stated Gresham, Smith and Partners Principal Frank Swaans, AIA, ACHA, FHFI, LEED AP, EDAC. “As a collaborative American-Egyptian venture, the EMAC has the opportunity to build a healthcare brand both locally and worldwide. Our design team will aim to capitalize on that potential with state-of-the-art facilities well-equipped for a wide variety of medical services and procedures.”

The hospital will strive to meet the medical needs of both local and international markets. Occupying a prime location near Cairo’s international airport, the EAMC plans to cater to a growing medical tourism market by offering competitively-priced and high-quality healthcare options likely to attract clients from far beyond Egypt’s borders.

Currently in the early design stages, EMAC is slated for completion in 2014-2015.
