HealthSouthEXTBirmingham, Ala. –Gresham, Smith and Partners has completed the new 48,000-square-foot, private-patient-room HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Cypress, Texas. The 40-bed hospital, which provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient physical and occupational therapy services, supports HealthSouth’s efforts to grow their Texas market share, increase staff and patient satisfaction and improve patient turnover.

“GS&P’s team worked with the HealthSouth staff to understand the unique needs of their inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation hospital,” said Robert Murphy, AIA, LEED AP, Gresham, Smith and Partners. “The new facility makes use of the latest healthcare design research to optimize the rehabilitation process, and the private patient rooms are designed with comfort and privacy in mind. As an example, each room includes a flat-screen television and wireless internet access.”

GS&P’s design services for the new HealthSouth facility included architecture and interior design. It was built by Hoar Construction Company. The buildingHealthSouthINT features upbeat colors and bright lighting in the higher-activity rehabilitation areas to improve patient safety and ease of participation. Circular soffits above administrative desks add architectural detail. Patient rooms are designed with calmer, muted tones, and photography and art inspired by the Cypress, Texas, community and landscape create a home-like atmosphere. An improved wayfinding system was also incorporated to help both patients and visitors navigate the facility.
