ATLANTA, Ga. — Brasfield & Gorrie has been awarded the contract to build Georgia’s first proton therapy facility, the Georgia Proton Treatment Center. In partnership with Advanced Particle Therapy, LLC, the construction company will build the center, which will be operated by Emory Healthcare, and is expected to break ground in early 2013.
Located in downtown Atlanta, the 115,000-square-foot facility will feature five treatment rooms, four with rotational gantries and one fixed-beam room.
Due to the highly specialized requirements of delivering proton treatment, the facility will require sub-millimeter concrete tolerances and specialized shielding walls in some areas, specifications for which Brasfield & Gorrie is particularly well suited based on the company’s well-known concrete construction expertise.
