CENTRAL TEXAS, Texas — Scott & White Healthcare is breaking ground on a five-story multispecialty pediatric clinic adjacent to McLane Children’s Hospital Scott & White in Temple. The 112,000 square-foot, $32-million facility will coordinate both outpatient and inpatient pediatric specialty services and physicians in one convenient location. This facility will greatly expand the opportunities for comprehensive, personalized and high-quality care for Central Texas children.
Construction on the new clinic is expected to take 14 months, with the building scheduled to open by the fall of 2013. The building is being constructed on the McLane Children’s campus to allow it to be connected in the future expansion to a new hospital bed tower.
The multispecialty clinic will initially include the following pediatric services:
- Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, cardiology, pulmonology, general pediatric surgery, orthopaedic surgery, podiatric surgery, urologic surgery, plastic surgery, gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology, ENT/audiology and speech, general pediatrics and adolescent medicine, and infectious disease.
- The multispecialty clinic building will house more than 80 highly specialized physicians, residents and fellows, and approximately 200 support staff. The building will have a total of 135 exam rooms, 13 treatment rooms and eight specialty rooms. A drive-through pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory services will also be part of the new building.
- The Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is a key feature of the new building. Made possible by a special donation, the new center will be 8,000 square feet, more than doubling the size of the existing pediatric cancer center. There will be two treatment rooms and nine infusion bays, all designed with children in mind, creating a comfortable and inviting environment for all.
- A Pediatric Neurosciences Center is another example of the enhanced services the new clinic will bring. The Neurosciences Center will contain child psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychology, and child development.
The building will also include specialty clinics that treat cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, and cleft palate. McLane Children’s provides advanced capabilities like these to better serve the children of Central Texas.
