MILFORD, Del. — Bayhealth has selected EwingCole to develop the master facility plan that will become the footprint for the new hospital on the Bayhealth Milford Memorial campus. The firm is expected to complete this key phase in the next 18 months.

In making the announcement, Bayhealth Milford Memorial’s Administrator Michael Ashton said, “We are excited at the prospect of developing the future service delivery model for healthcare in Southern Delaware. EwingCole will assist us in evaluating our existing site and make recommendations about building locations and the overall use of the property.  In addition, they will help assess how to optimize the location and our placement of services within our community.”

Since Bayhealth owns sufficient acreage, the new facility will be located on the existing campus of Bayhealth Milford Memorial, which has served the community since 1938. This venue provides the infrastructure, parking access and space necessary for the project.

Ashton says the new facility will be a full-service community hospital with state-of-the-art inpatient and ambulatory care capabilities.

“When completed, this full-service hospital will help the organization respond to the inevitable challenges healthcare reform will present and the need for expanded clinical integration and growth in ambulatory care services,” said Ashton.

When the new facility opens, the community will have emergency services, intensive care, surgical services, diagnostic and imaging services, inpatient dialysis, OB/GYN, inpatient rehabilitation beds, and medical/surgical beds. All patient rooms will be private to improve patient privacy and provide more space for family and provider-patient interaction.

EwingCole will work closely with Bayhealth leadership on creating a plan to phase in the future Bayhealth Milford Memorial.
