Racanelli Construction Company, Inc. has recently completed the addition/renovation of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital’s KNAPP Cardiac Center in Patchogue, New York. The company served as the construction manager on a major renovation of over 17,000 square feet on the existing facility, integrating it with the new over 58,000-square-foot, four-story building. Wiedersum Associates Architects, PLLC served as architect on the project.
The renovations involved structural steel and masonry work, the application of exterior metal panel systems, and the installation of an EPDM roof (i.e., a highly durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane comprised of ethylene proplylene diene monomer). The new building also involved the development of four new operating room suites, EP/CATH lab suites, nuclear gamma camera/stress facility, PACU areas, offices and doctors’ lounges. New sheet vinyl flooring, ceramic and terrazzo tile, vinyl wall covering, specialty wood ceilings, plastic laminate millwork and Corian and stone countertops also were provided in the renovation.
A particular challenge Racanelli Construction addressed in the KNAPP Cardiac Center project addition/renovation was to effectively deliver a state-of-the-art medical facility incorporating critical mechanical systems and accommodating vital medical systems (e.g., the Ors, EP/CATH lab and nuclear gamma camera). Another challenge Racanelli addressed was proceeding with its construction work within the existing hospital without disruption to the adjacent emergency department and ancillary department operations.
The company has been involved in such projects as the construction of the hospital’s main canopy, dialysis center, ambulatory surgery center, emergency department, hyperbaric center and its Oakdale, New York offices.
The project value was $41,000,000.
