Bayhealth Breaks Ground on Southern Delaware Health Campus Project

Bayhealth recently broke ground on a health campus project that will transform the way healthcare is delivered in southern Delaware. More than 200 community members, physicians, state and local leaders and Bayhealth team members gathered to celebrate the milestone event.

The health campus is slated to open in 2019. The site – just off Route 1 in Milford, Delaware – provides convenient patient access and, with more than 165 acres of land, the health campus will be able to grow and expand to meet the region’s future healthcare needs.

The health campus plan features a Lean-led design focused on efficiency and the ultimate goal of improving the overall patient experience. Bayhealth team members and physicians are actively involved in the health campus plans, working side-by-side with design teams to make the best decisions for their future patients.

The campus will include a six-story hospital with an expanded emergency department, additional operating rooms, all private patient rooms and a cafeteria on the first floor with outdoor seating. As this is more than a hospital—there will also be a 70,000-square-foot outpatient center with additional services.

Nemours Children’s Health System will provide specialized services for children and older adults in a separate building on the health campus.

CannonDesign is the lead architectural and engineering partner and Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is serving as the construction management firm.
