Hensel Phelps, Design Partners Selected for Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center Tower

Hensel Phelps, SmithGroupJJR and AVRP Studios have recently been selected by Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center officials as the design-build team for design and construction of its new 170,000-square-foot hospital.

The new tower will add 138 private patient rooms, six state-of-the-art operating rooms and the most advanced healthcare technology, programs and services to meet the needs of the growing South County region of San Diego, California. The Ocean View Tower at Sharp Chula Vista will be the first new hospital in the region in more than 40 years.

The competition held by Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center engaged the world’s best contractors and designers to deliver the best value for patients, physicians and the community of South County. Teams were required to submit their key personnel, schedule, cost components and technical solutions on key aspects of the project, as well as go through an extensive interview process for selection.

Groundbreaking for the project is expected in late 2016, with the grand opening anticipated in the fall of 2019.
