After nearly three years of construction, the new Kaiser Permanente San Marcos Medical Center has opened to patients. The seven-story, 433,000-square-foot facility expands access to healthcare for Kaiser Permanente’s 636,000 members in San Diego County.
Located in the heart of San Marcos, California, the facility features a 24-hour emergency department with 39 private treatment areas, eight operating rooms and capacity for 206 single interactive patient rooms.
Specialty services include an intensive care unit, interventional radiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, urology, nephrology, orthopedics, a robotic surgery program, maternal child health services and a neonatal intensive care unit.
The campus offers patients and visitors various spaces to find quiet and respite, such as a healing garden, meditation room and landscaped walking paths.
The new hospital earned LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The building uses technologies to produce its own electricity, heat and cooling. Native plants and an efficient drip irrigation system will help save 400,000 gallons of water each month. Flooring, insulation and furniture made of low-emitting materials improve indoor air quality.
The project team includes DPR and CO Architects.
