Construction has started for a new labor and delivery unit at Care New England Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. The project encompasses: a 18,500-square-foot building addition; renovation of 5,000 square feet of existing space.
The new unit, made possible by a $5 million gift from Brown University, aims to replace the existing but outdated labor and delivery facility, enhancing birthing options for families in Rhode Island and the surrounding region. The improved center will provide larger, more comfortable rooms with private baths and windows, space for families and support staff and updated equipment.
The new center will also improve access to emergency equipment, facilitate the formation of birth teams and offer more hands-on experience for nursing students. The project, designed by E4H Environments for Health Architecture and built by Dimeo Construction Company, is expected to be complete by December 2024.
