A groundbreaking for Ascension St. Vincent’s new micro hospital took place on Nov. 8 in Indiana. The new development will be in the Discovery Park district of Purdue, serving the West Lafayette, Indiana area by 2024. Purdue President Mitch Daniels, West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis and officials from Ascension St. Vincent and Medxcel were in attendance for the event.
Architectural design has been completed by MKM architecture + design. Phase 1 of construction is projected for completion in spring of 2024. Meyer Najem serves as construction manager of the project.
Key features of the micro hospital include: eight emergency room beds, seven inpatient beds, along with imaging and laboratory services and consumer-focused technology, including telemedicine.
Neighborhood hospitals bridge a persistent gap, offering quick service and serving as a middle ground between larger hospitals and urgent care centers. Inpatient hospital stays have become less common, and neighborhood hospitals provide convenient alternatives that are close to home and smaller, with easily accessible surface parking, shorter wait times and lower costs.
This neighborhood hospital is the first development of what will become a larger medical complex at the Purdue University campus that will focus mainly on outpatient care.
