BayCare’s HealthHub Bloomington, located in Valrico, Florida, has recently been completed. The mixed-use destination supports wellness-focused lifestyles to expand the healthcare organization’s reach, with space available for future retail tenants.
The new HealthHub is a 108,000-square-foot, two-story building that integrates traditional healthcare services, fitness and retail in one setting, including rehabilitation areas; urgent care; primary care physician’s offices for both adults and pediatrics; imaging suite with MRI, CT and radiology. With the fitness gym and group fitness rooms, the building offers health and wellness opportunities, including fitness classes and a kitchen for healthy-cooking demonstrations.
The diverse collection of programmatic spaces is housed around a central lobby and registration area for customer convenience. The building design has replaced the traditional small waiting rooms in individual doctors’ offices with a spacious lobby area and the technology to provide real-time access to the exam rooms.
Lighting, color and flooring materials were used as wayfinding elements to intuitively guide patients and visitors throughout the space. There is a prominent communicating stair at the entry and the elevators are arranged in an obscure way to encourage movement and activity through the space.
Located on a 22-acre lot, the site and landscape design also provides opportunities for fitness and wellness activities with a walking trail, outdoor fitness and green space and a serene garden.
The project team included architect Gresham Smith and general contractor Barton Malow.
