Burns & McDonnell has been selected by Parkland Health & Hospital System to provide building commissioning services as part of the continued design and construction on the Parkland campus in Texas. Located in Dallas County, the 2.8-million-square-foot Parkland campus is nearly twice the size of the old hospital, meeting the needs of the area’s growing population.
The commissioning team will confirm that the project’s overall performance meets its defined design, construction and programming criteria, delivered utilizing a multi-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity agreement. As part of its commissioning services, Burns & McDonnell will conduct design reviews, observe construction performance, participate in equipment startups and test all systems to verify systems can operate efficiently and be maintained properly once construction is complete.
Taking an integrated team approach — working on the project from the planning phase through construction — Burns & McDonnell is supporting sustainability efforts to meet LEED v4 certification requirements. The services include indoor air quality planning and testing as well as building envelope services and monitoring-based commissioning for the following systems:
- HVAC
- Building automated controls
- Building enclosure
- Emergency power
- Room pressurization
- Isolation room exhaust
- Humidity control
- Plumbing
- Medical gases, medical vacuum and medical air
- Normal, essential and emergency power distribution
- Lighting and lighting control
- Nurse call
- Security
One of the first projects will include the design, construction, equipment and training review for a 525,000-square-foot, six-floor new outpatient clinic, which includes innovative treatment spaces, examination rooms, laboratories, imaging, medical offices and collaboration areas.
