PHOENIX, Ariz. — McCarthy Building Companies Inc. recently broke ground on the new hospital to be built on the HonorHealth Sonoran Medical Center campus in Phoenix, Arizona. The 210,000-square-foot campus expansion project marks the commencement of construction on the 155,000-square-foot, three-story inpatient hospital that will initially add nearly 40 new patient beds with the ability to expand as needs for services increase.
The hospital will bring the north Phoenix community a new 24-hour emergency department; comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care, which includes labor delivery services with a Level II neonatal intensive care unit; orthopedic and spine services as well as a state-of-the-art surgical unit. The hospital is expected to open September 2020.
The project’s design and construction team have been in preconstruction phase for 14 months, collaborating with the owner and subcontractors through the Integrated Project Delivery process, which allows the project to be constructed with more certainty of achieving the owner’s vision and interactive problem solving by the entire team whereby challenges are addressed through group-think.
McCarthy Building Companies is the general contractor. Devenney Group Architects is the architect on the project and CBRE is construction manager.
