MKM architecture + design has been commissioned by Fort Wayne Pediatrics, Fort Wayne, Texas, to renovate a newly acquired campus into a modern care environment.
MKM Principal Dodd Kattman said the design team paid special attention to the total patient experience. “We worked closely with the care team to create a welcoming environment for families by making wayfinding, from check-in to check-out, as simple and direct as possible. Our design substantially reduced travel distances to exam rooms. This may seem like a minor inconvenience on paper, but MKM saw it as an opportunity to alleviate some of the stress families can experience when visiting the doctor’s office.”
The facility will house fifty exam rooms and feature Lean planning principles that will minimize unnecessary steps, which enables physicians and nursing staff to focus their energy on patient service. Improvements to the 30,000-square-foot building, located near Dupont Hospital, will support sixteen providers. Construction began in fall 2017 with an expected completion date of summer 2018.
Shawnee Construction is serving as general contractor on the renovation.
