Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s $470M Sobrato Pavilion Opens
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The $470-million Sobrato Pavilion building on the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center campus in San Jose, California, recently opened.
AECOM, as project and construction manager, provided schedule and cost management, quality assurance, project administration and contract management during the preconstruction and construction phases for the facility. AECOM also provided similar services for the medical center’s newly complete Receiving and Support Center.
The six-story, 370,000-square-foot Sobrato Pavilion houses 168 private patient rooms that include intensive care, acute/transitional beds and rehabilitation beds, as well as a state-of-the-art spinal cord and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation center. The pavilion is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
Connected to the Sobrato Pavilion and other campus buildings by an underground access tunnel, the 145,000-square-foot RSC is the material receiving facility for the campus. The RSC also includes offices for the medical center’s Facilities Department. Both facilities are part of the 50-building Santa Clara Valley Medical Center campus, which is one of the county’s largest and busiest hospitals. SCVMC is the only public hospital in the community and has provided care to more than 25 percent of county residents.
