White Oak Medical Center Tops Out
WASHINGTON, D.C. — CallisonRTKL recently celebrated the structural topping out of Adventist HealthCare’s White Oak Medical Center in White Oak, Maryland. The elevator hoist beams, which have been in the lobby of the existing hospital for community members to sign, are among the final pieces of the building structure to be placed, representing a major milestone in the construction of the new facility. White Oak Medical Center replaces Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland, which has served the greater Washington, D.C. community for more than a century.
“White Oak Medical Center is designed for improved patient experience, care and clinical efficiency,” said CallisonRTKL Associate Vice President Mitchell Collin. “The nature-inspired architecture of the new facility features extensive daylighting, with both interior and exterior spaces designed to afford patients, visitors and staff access to nature, reinforcing Adventist HealthCare’s strong belief in nature’s role in healing.”
The 170-bed, 473,000-square-foot medical center includes all-private rooms and features updated technology and medical equipment, and improved wayfinding, accessibility and campus circulation. The replacement hospital is part of a larger master plan development that will include a medical office building, parking garage and ample opportunities for future expansion on the 48-acre campus.
The facility is projected to open in summer 2019.
The general contractor on the project is Turner Construction.
