CHICAGO, Ill. – Construction has begun for the expansion and renovation of McLaren Health’s current Port Huron campus in Port Huron, Michigan, designed jointly by CallisonRTKL and SmithGroupJJR. Barton Malow/Cristman is serving as general contractor. The project includes a new, 35,000-square-foot cancer center and a 165,000-square-foot, multi-story patient tower, as well as renovations to the current hospital.
McLaren Health Care and the Karmanos Cancer Institute are offering a new standard of care to the community. The Karmanos Cancer Institute, a brand new facility with a new linear accelerator and state-of-the-art technology, will deliver the most effective radiation therapy available. The center will also administer clinical trials, infusion therapy and other cutting-edge therapies, while taking advantage of vistas provided by the Pine Grove Park and St. Clair River. Radiation therapy and medical oncology services will be provided starting in the summer of 2016, with full occupancy expected at the end of 2017.
The new patient tower at the south end of the campus will feature 90 private rooms, an emergency center, observation unit, a new and expanded intensive care unit and an inpatient surgery/interventional suite. Occupancy is anticipated in the spring of 2018.
In addition, renovations to the current hospital include a new hospital front entry and central lobby with a new north and south tower orientation, renovated private patient rooms and a modernized cafeteria. Additional areas will be renovated in the current east tower to enhance the overall experience providing a fresh new environment of care. Completion of renovations is set for the fall of 2019.
