WILMINGTON, N.C. – New Hanover Regional Medical Center is undergoing a major expansion and renovation of the NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center, Wilmington, North Carolina. This project will further expand the comprehensive services offered to patients at the region’s primary destination for cancer care.
The plan, scheduled for completion in fall 2017, allows for seamless treatment as all services will remain fully operational during the renovation.
The new NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center design includes:
- Patient care areas and onsite offices for the physicians and staff of Cape Fear Cancer Specialists – NHRMC Physician Group.
- Space for gynecologic oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology and multi-disciplinary programs, such as the NHRMC Lung Program.
- Expanded capacity of infusion stations from 15 to 48, tailored to suit patients’ preferences for privacy or socialization.
- Access to diagnostics, outpatient infusion, clinical trials, treatment options, community resources and support groups.
- An Information and Inspiration Center to offer patients educational resources and inspiration to help support a sense of belonging and community. The Inspiration Center staff will help guide patients through support services at NHRMC and assist with connecting patients with community partners.
During construction, patients will be directed to a new entrance, registration area and lobby to the left of the NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center’s previous main entrance. Signs will designate the new entrance and a drop-off lane will be available for the convenience of patients and caregivers.
The project is designed by LS3P and constructed by Monteith Construction. The total cost of the project, including construction, equipment, furniture and permitting, is $14.5 million.
