GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – A consortium of 60 local doctors have retained two healthcare design and development firms, HDR and SMP, to help identify the space planning and programming requirements for a possible new community hospital based in Grand Island, Nebraska.
A number of physicians who are part of Grand Island Hospital Holding LLC are working with planners, programmers, clinical specialists and designers to explore the operational, technological and environmental platforms needed for a new hospital, commented HDR’s Healthcare Principal Wendy Moran, AIA.
“If the decision is made to move ahead with the hospital, our goal will be to help them deliver an unparalleled patient experience—one that reinforces a commitment to the health and well-being of Grand Island and the surrounding community,” Moran said. “Our discussions are helping to frame what is needed to bring excellent care and that kind of patient experience to life.”
Some of the specific items being addressed will impact the scope of the project, such as total square footage requirements, the number of patient beds, the size and type of procedure rooms, imaging department requirements and other ancillary care needs.
Discussions are ongoing, with final decisions anticipated by summer 2016.
