STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford Health Care recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion and upcoming opening of its new Stanford Cancer Center South Bay in San Jose, California. Attendees included Stanford Health Care employees and medical staff, area physicians, community members and public officials. The Stanford Cancer Center South Bay brings Stanford Health Care’s renowned comprehensive cancer services to the South Bay in a state-of-the-art, patient-oriented center.
The design of the Stanford Cancer Center South Bay was created to bring a multidisciplinary care team to each patient’s exam room, rather than having patients move from one department to another during their visit. Every detail has been considered from the patient’s perspective to support the delivery of the most advanced cancer care available, in a setting that is unsurpassed in the South Bay.
Planning for the building included extensive workflow design in partnership with Stanford’s Patient and Family Advisory Councils, members of the local community and a multidisciplinary team of physicians and staff to provide a welcoming and efficient layout. Details include separating the patient from the comings and goings of the medical staff to further enhance the calming effect of the space, and locating the infusion treatment area on the top floor with expansive windows providing calming views. Versatile care areas can be customized to accommodate patient and provider needs, and to adapt to evolving medical technology.
The 70,000-square-foot facility, located at the intersection of State Route 85 and Los Gatos Blvd. in San Jose, is scheduled to open for patient care in mid-July.
