COBLESKILL, N.Y. – MorrisSwitzer~Environments for Health and Bassett Healthcare Network recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new health center to be built on the Cobleskill Regional Hospital campus. This project will relocate and expand the primary care services of Bassett Healthcare Network, accommodating increased patient volumes.

Cobleskill Clinic Groundbreaking R“Over the past 20 years, we’ve seen demand for primary care grow tremendously. We’ll soon be able to meet the needs of more patients in a spacious, modern facility. I’m also excited about the progressive design of the new building, which is intended to foster improved care coordination and consistency of care,” commented Dr. Joseph Sellers, the center’s medical director.

The new facility is being designed as a medical home, supporting Bassett’s patient-centered approach to care. The floor plan is divided into four distinct pods with care teams assigned to each pod.  The pods will contain a nurse station, 4 provider offices and 11 exam rooms.  Centrally located support spaces such as blood draw, medications, supply storage and lab are shared between two pods to minimize foot traffic for staff.  A single central waiting room provides a clear point of entry to the building and easy access to registration and check-in.

Community input was incorporated into the design, planning sessions were held with patients resulting in suggestions about signage, privacy considerations and non-slip flooring. The floor plan also includes a conference room for community health education programs.

The new 20,000-square-foot primary care center is designed to allow for flexibility and can expand to accommodate over four additional providers.

MorrisSwitzer is the network architect for Bassett Healthcare.  McCarthy is construction manager.
