The extensive $21-million project relocated ER and ICU, and remodeled the patient, specialty treatment and pharmacy departments, as well as waiting areas and staff amenities – all accomplished without interruption to the clinic or hospital services.
KA converted 11 existing patient rooms to single patient rooms, and added new labor and delivery areas, as well as five infusion bays for chemotherapy and other medication therapies. In addition, the renovation created a new support services area that houses medical records and human resources, bringing all Riverwood employees in Aitkin into one location.
The expansion effort also facilitated an economic boost, created 18 new positions at the hospital and generated 130 new construction jobs with a payroll of approximately $6 million for the duration of construction. KA also hired subcontractors from Aitkin, as well as the surrounding area.
