    Brasfield & Gorrie to Expand, Renovate Dallas Hospital, Top Out Medical Center

    DALLAS / KINGWOOD, Texas — Brasfield & Gorrie has been awarded the vertical expansion and renovation of the Medical City Hospital in Dallas, Texas. In addition, the firm has topped out the South Tower Addition at Kingwood Medical Center, making the final concrete pour on May 31.

    Medical City Dallas RThe vertical expansion project will consist of a 160,307-square-foot, four-story vertical expansion above the existing emergency department and ambulance drop-off, where the hospital admits more than 65 percent of its patients. Work will also include a 68,576-square-foot, phased interior renovation of multiple departments on the campus, including surgery, medical oncology, surgical oncology, stem cell and the emergency department/cardiac diagnostic unit. Perkins+Will is serving as the architect of record on the project, which will begin in January 2014.

    Kingwood Medical Aerial RThe Kingwood Medical Center project includes a three-story addition, as well as renovations to the existing hospital. The first floor will include 12 labor, delivery and recovery rooms; eight high-risk antepartum beds; 24 neonatal intensive care beds; two C-section operating rooms and a four-bed obstetric triage suite. The second floor will house 36 postpartum beds and 32 well-baby nursery beds. The third floor will be shell space intended for future pediatric and medical/surgical beds. Brasfield & Gorrie is also building a new central energy plant as part of the 152,000-square-foot project.

    While constructing the addition, Brasfield & Gorrie is completing multiple renovations to the existing hospital. Renovated spaces will include administrative, admissions, kitchen and dining areas. The project will also add parking to the southeast and northwest corners of the campus.

    The South Tower project began is expected to complete in October 2014. Gould Turner Group is the architect on the expansion.
