The new radiology suite will be used for interventional radiology and endoscopic procedures. McGrath added structural steel support beams under the existing first-floor slab to provide support for the Zeego robotic arm equipment. The project also required sheet lead radiation shielding. The room finishes included seamless vinyl flooring with a FlashCove base, and sheet wall protection.
Installing the 2- and 3-inch conduit runs for the Siemens equipment cables presented a challenge, since the cables are made to specific lengths. This required careful coordination and planning to route conduit around structural obstacles to stay within the cable lengths.
Because the project was built within an occupied hospital, McGrath followed strict contamination isolation and infectious prevention measures, to ensure a safe work environment and clean air quality for patients and staff.
