Single-Story, LEED-Registered Outpatient Facility to Enhance Veteran Medical Care in Rockford, Illinois
ROSEMONT, Ill. — McShane Construction Company was recently selected to complete a 32,150 square foot Rockford Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic on behalf of developer W.D. Schorsch Real Estate.

The new single-story medical facility will be located on a 3.9-acre site at Featherstone Drive and Mulford Avenue in Rockford, Ill. Groundbreaking for the new clinic will take place in spring 2011 with completion scheduled for early 2012.

The outpatient clinic will be designed and constructed to LEED™-Silver standards and will include sustainable features such as a geothermal heating and cooling system and abundant natural light within the expansive lobby and common areas.  These features will provide an overall energy savings of 40% when compared to traditionally constructed facilities of similar size and scope.

The interior of the clinic will incorporate a generous public waiting area and lobby, numerous physician offices, treatment rooms, staff support areas, pharmacy, diagnostic testing capabilities and laboratories.  Additionally, the state-of-the-art medical facility will offer integrated primary care and mental health services, physical therapy, clinical pharmacy, podiatry, women’s health, basic radiology and will contain an onsite laboratory.

The building will be constructed with tinted precast panels and feature a sand-blasted exterior complemented by thin-set brick accents.  The facility will include a generous exterior entrance canopy, in addition to a separate canopy and entrance to accommodate ambulance traffic. Numerous security features including cameras, key card restricted areas, emergency call buttons, laminated glass and blast resistant materials will also be incorporated.

An existing VA clinic located in Rockford will relocate to the new larger Rockford Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic to better serve area veterans. Marasco & Associates, Inc. is providing the architectural services for this extensive medical facility assignment.
