CallisonRTKL Designs New Face for Thornton Hospital
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – CallisonRTKL has been selected as the executive architect for University of California San Diego’s Thornton Hospital East Entry and Atrium, as well as for the Thornton Hospital Radiology/MRI renovation project in La Jolla, California.
CallisonRTKL aims to integrate Performance-Driven Design techniques with its operational excellence team’s Lean design methodologies to create a seamless design and planning process. These renovations will develop a new face for the hospital’s main entrance and enhance the visitor experience in the public atrium. Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2018.
The project entails approximately 23,000 square feet of major renovations and additions to UCSD Thornton Hospital’s entry, atrium and adjoining exterior building’s north and east facades. The predicted date of completion is the third quarter of 2019. Turner Construction is serving as general contractor on the project.
