Turner to Manage Construction of New Outpatient Center at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital

OAKLAND, Calif. — Turner Construction Company has recently been selected by the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland to serve as general contractor on its new outpatient center.

The six-story, 88,000-square-foot addition to the hospital’s campus will include five above-grade floors of clinic space – including exam and treatment rooms, labs, support areas and administrative offices – and one grade-level floor dedicated to building services, parking and circulation from an adjacent parking structure. The project will also include new access and building connections to the hospital’s first outpatient building, as well as installation of underground utilities, security system improvements, paving of vehicular drives and ramps and landscaping.

“As the first of the projects that make up the hospital’s 10-year master plan, the construction of this outpatient center will set the tone for the whole development,” said Fred Rubis, senior project manager. He continued, “The building poses a number of unique challenges, including a tight site and tie-ins to an adjacent, occupied building, but we’re confident that with extensive pre-planning, communication and monitoring we’ll be able to deliver a great resource for the community. We’ve already met with local residents a number of times, and we’ll continue to meet with them throughout the job. This hospital is for them and we’re going to do everything we can to be a good and engaged neighbor as we complete our work.”
