DALLAS, Texas — SmithGroupJJR has added Eric L. Kirkland, PE, LEED AP BD+C, senior vice president, as director of engineering at its Dallas, Texas office. He formerly served in the same role at the firm’s Phoenix, Arizona office.
Kirkland’s relocation brings engineering discipline leadership to SmithGroupJJR’s Dallas location, a first for the office. Kirkland led the SmithGroupJJR engineering team in Phoenix for 15 years.
“Eric Kirkland’s career and extensive background will serve as a driving force as we continue to grow our integrated design practice throughout Texas,” said Jay Rambo, SmithGroupJJR Dallas office director.
During his 33 years with SmithGroupJJR, Kirkland’s design work has focused on unique environmental conditions that inform and influence the energy efficiency and sustainable design performance of buildings. Kirkland spearheaded SmithGroupJJR’s engineering design for new Energy Systems Integration Facility at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s in Golden, Colorado, one of the nation’s premier energy research facilities.
While leading the SmithGroupJJR engineering team in Phoenix, Kirkland played a major role in several of the firm’s most significant projects in Texas, including the Veteran’s Administration Outpatient Clinics in Harlingen and McAllen; Texas Tech Health Sciences Center’s El Paso Research Facility and the Houston Customs and Border Patrol SW Science Center for the Department of Homeland Security in Houston. Currently, he is involved with several North and East Texas projects, including the Tyler Junior College Nursing and Health Sciences Complex, The University of Texas at Tyler College of Pharmacy, and The University of Texas at Dallas Callier Richardson Expansion.
Kirkland is a past president of the ASHRAE Central Arizona Chapter and has spoken at the Tradeline R&D conferences. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Kirkland resides in McKinney, Texas.
