Executives Are Two of Only Three Designees in the State of Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Haskell Company announces two of its Directors of Project Development, Jeff Blount and James Reed, have earned the designation of Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) by the American Hospital Association (AHA) Certification Center. The CHC is a national credential that distinguishes an individual as being among the elite in the critical field of healthcare construction.
“Jeff and James are two of only three people in the State of Florida with this designation, an honor that we are all proud of at Haskell,” said Wayne Burrus, vice president of Haskell’s Healthcare Division. Haskell was recently ranked the No. 1 Healthcare Facility Design/Builder in the U.S. by Modern Healthcare. “Our Healthcare Division has grown tremendously over the past decade. We want our executives to be ahead of the curve and sought-after experts in the industry.”
To earn the CHC, an individual must satisfy eligibility requirements that incorporate a blend of professional experience and education, agree to adhere to the AHA Professional Standards of Conduct, and pass the CHC Certification Examination. The CHC Examinations assesses industry fundamentals; planning, design and construction process; healthcare facility safety additions and renovations; and financial stewardship. The CHC program supports the community of healthcare construction professionals and is designed to provide an objective and rigorous assessment of mastery of a well-defined body of professional knowledge. Additionally, certificants demonstrate their continued professional development and commitment to the profession by maintaining the certification through participation in professional development activities.
Haskell’s largest healthcare projects in 2009 included the new St. John Broken Arrow Hospital and Medical Office in Broken Arrow, Okla., and the Baptist Medical Center South Tower D addition in Jacksonville, Fla. St. John Broken Arrow Hospital and Medical Office is a 92-bed, six-story, 189,000-square-foot hospital designed for expansion and a 108,000-square-foot medical office building with a pedestrian connector to the hospital. The total project cost is approximately $100 million and construction will be complete this summer.
The Baptist Medical Center South Tower D addition contains approximately 222,000 square feet of new construction and renovation. The addition features a new eight-story patient tower with a ninth floor mechanical penthouse that includes a 14-bed newborn intensive care unit, a 24-bed nursery, an additional 10 labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum suites, 48 acute care beds, four intensive care beds, a new inpatient pharmacy, cardiology diagnostic area, and an expansion of the existing central energy plant. It also includes the construction of a new 378,000-square-foot, 1,050-space parking structure. The project cost was approximately $85 million and was completed in the summer of 2009.
