Two Duke Realty-Developed Buildings for Baylor Scott & White Facilities Open

TEMPLE and WACO, Texas — Baylor Scott & White Health has opened two new Duke Realty-developed outpatient clinic buildings in Texas – a cancer center that offers a multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists all in one location, and an orthopedic clinic that is the first in Texas to offer all orthopedic specialties, rehabilitation service, and resources in one facility.

The 75,000-square-foot, three-story Roney Bone and Joint Institute is located on the main campus of the Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, which first opened in 1904. The 34,400-square-foot, two-story Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center is located next to the landmark Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center at Interstate 35 and Hillcrest Medical Drive in Waco. Baylor Scott & White owns and manages both the Temple and Waco facilities.

“The new Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center in Waco offers the widest range of cancer specialties, services and resources in a convenient, easily accessible outpatient facility,” says Robert W. Pryor, M.D., Baylor Scott & White Health president and chief operating officer. “We’re also pleased with the design of the center, which is intended to provide a calming, tranquil environment that meets patients’ psychological needs while we deliver technologically advanced clinical cancer services.”

Dr. Pryor added, “In addition, we’re proud of the new orthopedic clinic, which houses 35 orthopedic specialists and sub-specialists in both operative and non-operative treatment. This represents another example of Baylor Scott & White’s commitment to expand our specialized healthcare services to meet the needs of the greater Central Texas community.”

“The orthopedic clinic is the first of its kind in Texas, and the cancer center offers high-quality cancer care – from screening and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up – all in one location,” says Rich Couturier, Duke Realty senior vice president, Healthcare Development. “We’re proud to have helped Baylor Scott & White develop these new facilities that provide much-needed medical services and the ultimate in patient convenience.”

The cancer center offers the services of a wide range of cancer specialists, including specialists in hematology and medical, radiation, surgical and neuro-oncology. The facility houses a linear accelerator and treatment areas for radiation therapy; a CT simulator; new technologies such as image-guided radiation therapy and intensity-modulated radiation therapy; 20 infusion therapy rooms with scenic garden views; patient exam, consulting and procedure rooms and space for cancer care education and support programs.

Specialists in the Roney Bone and Joint Institute include physiatrists, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons and sports medicine specialists.

The architect for the orthopedic clinic in Temple was Dallas-based Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. and the general contractor was MEDCO Construction of Dallas. The architect for the cancer center in Waco was the Dallas office of HDR and the general contractor was JE Dunn, also of Dallas.
