Southfield, MI — The Engineering Society of Detroit has conferred a Construction & Design Award upon the team that designed and built the Clinical Services Building for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center).  The owner, constructors Barton Malow Company and P.J. Dick in joint venture, and architect Astorino were recognized at the Society’s annual awards dinner, June 23.

The hospital is ranked among the top pediatric institutions in the country.  The 900,000 square foot project  – 600,000 square feet of new construction and 300,000 square feet of renovations – was completed within three years.  It is currently under review for LEED™ (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification by the US Green Building Council.  It is among the first fully digital hospitals in the country, allowing physicians to place nearly all inpatient care orders electronically, minimizing the likelihood of error.

This is the tenth consecutive year Barton Malow has been honored at the ESD award ceremony.  Prior award-winning projects and honorable mentions include the Detroit Metropolitan Airport North Terminal Redevelopment, Bosch Technical Center, Whitmore Lake High School, and the William Beaumont Hospital South Tower Addition – Royal Oak, all in Michigan.

Barton Malow Company provides construction management, design-build, program management, general contracting, technology and rigging services throughout North America.  The ISO quality certified company has LEED™ Accredited Professionals on staff and is an industry Building Information Modeling (BIM) leader. Niche market specialties include health care, educational, federal, industrial, energy and special event facilities.  Barton Malow has a staff of over 1,300 in 13 offices and is
