COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Kitchell recently completed construction of the new Scott & White Hospital-College Station, a five-story, 143-bed capacity acute care facility. Construction of the 403,000-square-foot hospital, designed by Jacobs Engineering, began in early 2011. The project includes a four-story medical office building, which features shell space for a cancer center buildout.

The presence of subsoil water, one of the project challenges, resulted in upward movement, requiring framing modifications of the tower’s lower level. A reverse slip track framing arrangement (i.e., sill in lieu of head), was implemented without impact to the overall project schedule. The lower level encompasses approximately 48,500 square feet, for which all associated framing was required to be modified.

The 98-acre Scott & White Hospital-College Station houses an emergency department, comprehensive cardiac services including cardiac catheterization labs, neonatal intensive care unit and many other specialty services. Clinic services include a neuroscience center, cancer center, women and children’s services and orthopedic care, as well as other specialties, all supported by state-of-the-art imaging technology and other diagnostic capabilities.

    Additional facility highlights:

    • A healing garden.
    • An onsite 5-acre retention pond will provide irrigation for the site via the storage of rain and stormwater runoff.
    • Third-level NICU infant pinwheel arrangement. Pinwheels are composed of custom millwork fabrication.
