CHICAGO, IL — National Surgical Hospitals, an owner, operator and developer of surgical hospitals and surgery centers in partnership with local physicians, today announced the opening of its newest surgical hospital, South Texas Surgical Hospital, 6130 Parkway Drive in Corpus Christi, Texas. The 63,000-square-foot surgical hospital, adjacent to the Company’s Coastal Bend Surgery Center, is equipped with five operating rooms and 33 inpatient beds. It was designed to accommodate a range of multi-specialty surgical care, including orthopedics, general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology and other surgical specialties.

“Like all of our surgical hospitals, South Texas offers a specialized approach to quality healthcare, playing an important role in the continuum of surgical care”

The new hospital, which NSH will operate in partnership with a group of 55 area physicians, is the Company’s fifteenth surgical hospital to open nationwide and its fifth surgical hospital in Texas.

Commenting on the opening, John G. Rex-Waller, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of NSH, said, “We are pleased to open the South Texas Surgical Hospital following nearly two years of development and construction. By accelerating the construction process by more than 90 days, we completed this facility well ahead of schedule and have already received accreditation from the Joint Commission, which enables the hospital to participate in Medicare and Medicaid programs, and positions it to grow and thrive in the current regulatory environment.

“Like all of our surgical hospitals, South Texas offers a specialized approach to quality healthcare, playing an important role in the continuum of surgical care,” Rex-Waller continued. “We think our ability to offer expanded healthcare choices to consumers in South Texas will bring greater cost efficiency and convenience to the area while creating increased practice efficiencies for the surgeons who utilize our facility. We appreciate and value the support we have received from our physician partners and the community during this process as we shared their vision and have now, together, brought this project to a successful culmination. This is yet one more step in our company’s journey to fulfill a transforming, forward-looking strategy in surgical care, and we look forward to serving the greater Corpus Christi area.”

Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Michael Mintz, managing partner for the physician group, said, “In 2008, our group first partnered with NSH to enhance the day-to-day management and strategic vision for Coastal Bend Surgery Center. Two years into this process, we have validated firsthand the Company’s strong reputation in surgery center management capabilities and its expertise in the critical areas against a very challenging economic and regulatory backdrop. Today, we also are pleased to have witnessed their skills in conceptualizing, developing and completing such a significant project like South Texas Surgical Hospital, so professionally, effectively and efficiently. As always, our overarching interest is the welfare of our patients, and we continue to believe the specialized focus that NSH brings to high-quality surgical care will enhance our ability to provide patients with a better overall hospital experience and, thus, help this facility achieve its mission for improved patient care.”

National Surgical Hospitals is the innovative healthcare partner that empowers physicians to thrive in a changing marketplace. NSH has operational surgical hospitals located in Arizona, California, Idaho, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Aside from its focus on surgical hospitals, NSH has operational orthopaedic-focused surgery centers located in Arizona, California, Michigan, and Texas.
